OTH FAQ
Answers to all your OTH questions
What exactly is OTH?
OTH is a group of guys that play the online first person shooter game 'Halo'. A group of guys that band together is referred to as a 'clan', therefore we refer to ourselves as the 'OTH Clan' or 'Clan OTH'. Since it is an online game the players can be located anywhere in the world.
Who started Clan OTH?
This is kind of a tough question to answer as it wasn't planned nor did it happen overnight. DNukem was playing with MoFo, Frosty, MacG and probably a few others when the issue of age came up and we realized we were all older than your typical gamer. We started joking about starting a clan for old guys and the name 'Over The Hill' was mentioned. We always seemed to congregate at any server running the Infinity level using rockets (us old guys can't aim very well). From there it just seemed to take on a life of its own. Mac bought some server space, we started the web site and started recruiting.
What does OTH stand for?
'Over The Hill' as one of the requirements for membership is to be at least 35 years old. Some of our members are over 60 years old.
What are the requirements to be considered for membership?
You must be a fair gamer, have a sense of humor, not be nasty or derogatory to anyone else, and be 35 or older. There are obvious exceptions but the rules hold fairly fast.
Why do I see members listed that are younger that your minimum age?
Most members that are younger than the minimum age of 35 are one of OTH's offspring. In some case we actually know who both parents are.
Why do I see a lower case 'oth' on some member names?
We were getting a lot of requests from younger players to join our clan. We hated turning them away but wanted to stand by our original charter of being over the hill players. We decided to compromise and start an 'up and coming OTHers' group who are OTH members but use the lower case to indicate they arent 'of age' yet. This practice has been stopped and we no longer consider anyone under 35 for membership though past members were grandfathered in
Who maintains the server?
MacG (Don) manages the server though many members have rcon privileges. The server is paid for by member donations
Who creates the mods?
MacG creates all the modded maps.
What are the server rules?
For the most part just play nice. You will of course be kicked or banned if you are caught cheating (using an Aimbot etc). Most of the kicks and bans are because someone was being a jerk (shooting your own team members in a team match) or for just being a poor sport and aggravating the other players. There are different levels of bans (minutes, hours, days or permanent) and there is a limit (3) as to how many betrayals you can have in team play before you get automatically kicked by the server. We also don't tolerate players with foul mouths, especially if it's derogatory or directed at other players. If you can't play and have fun without irritaing or offending other players, you won't be allowed on our server.
Who hosts the server?
Why GameServers.com of course!
Do you have TeamSpeak?
Yes! We have a new tool and we will update the instructions soon
.
Who maintains the web site?
DNukem created and maintains the web site. Please notify him if you notice any problems or have any suggestions (or if you have any money you don't need and are itching to give away).
How do I get the modded maps?
Go to the OTH web site Modded Maps' section and follow the directions.
Is there a list of all the mods?
Some but not all of the mods are shown on the Mods section of our site.
What happens if I dont have the modded maps?
All the mods will work, you just miss out on visual effects and visual hints as to where portals etc are.
What happens when I play a regular game with a modded map?
You will see the mods and it will appear as if they are working, but in reality its just a normal game. For example the sniper rifle will look like its shooting tank rounds in Infinity but will actually only be shooting bullets.
What are the IP addresses of the OTH servers?
Normal Rocket Slayer: 8.12.23.18:2302
Modded Rocket Slayer: 68.232.171.74:2302
ROCKETS R {OTH}: 8.6.3.13:2302
How do I contact OTH?
Email DNukem at dnukem(at)othclan.com
If I get an invite to join OTH, what do I do?
Email the following to DNukem at dnukem(at)othclan.com
Your real first name
The year you were born
A pic of your handsome mug
A short or long bio. Read ours for examples or ideas
Include your game name so I know who you are
The more pics and info you send the better. We love knowing who we're killing!
If I can't get on one of the OTH servers what do I do?
First off, if it says youve been banned, you need to email DNukem at dnukem(at)othclan.com and ask him if the clan will vote to let you back in.
Next, if it says the server closed down and you go to the server page (othclan/server.html) and it also says the server is down, then email DNukem and I'll notify Mac to reset the server.
If it says negotiating connection or something to that effect, then you may have a server problem bewteen the game server and your machine. You can ping the game server and see if you get a response. To ping the server do the following:
1. In windows, go to the Start Menu, then All Programs, then Accessories, and select 'Command Prompt'.
2a. For the unmodded server, in the command window enter 'ping 8.12.23.18'.
2b. For the unmodded server, in the command window enter 'ping 68.232.171.74'.
If you don't get something resembling the screen below then the game server or a server between your computer and the game server is down. All you can do is wait.

If you get something resembling the next screen shown then the game server or a server between your computer and the game server is definitely down. All you can do is wait.
